Veterans Day celebrations are happening across the SWFL to honor our service members! Here is a list of events happening near you.

LEE COUNTY

Fort Myers Parade
  1. When: from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on November 11
  2. Where: Edison Mall, 4125 Cleveland Avenue in Fort Myers

The public can honor military veterans as well as Edison Mall and the American Legion Rabe O. Wilkinson Post 38 with a Parade and Veterans Day celebration. The parade route will begin at Entrance B near JC Penney’s and continue along the exterior of the mall. Bring your chairs and good humor to thank those who have served and protected our freedoms. It’s a free event.

Fort Myers YMCA Veterans Day 5K
  1. When: 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. on November 11
  2. Where: Fort Myers YMCA, 1360 Royal Palm Square Blvd. in Fort Myers

This 3.1-mile nighttime run begins and ends on the Fort Myers side of the Midpoint Bridge, taking runners out and back to finish at Royal Palm Square. Proceeds will be donated to the YMCA of Fort Myers financial aid program. The first 500 entries will receive a unisex race-specific shirt and a goodie bag. Shirt sizes are not guaranteed.

Cape Coral Parade
  1. When: 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. November 11
  2. Where: Cape Coral Parkway

You are invited to join the Cape Coral Veterans Parade to honor American heroes and pay tribute to those who lost their lives, served honorably and those who still serve our country. The parade will begin at 11 a.m. and continue west from Cape Coral Street to Chester Street. The number of seats in the stands is limited. You can bring your own blankets and garden chairs.

Midpoint Madness Veterans Day 5K Run / Walk

This event will close the Midpoint Bridge from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on November 11. Drivers are encouraged to use the Cape Coral Bridge or the US 41 and Business 41 Bridges as alternate routes. The Lee County Department of Transportation will place bulletin boards on Monday, November 1 to alert motorists of the closure.

Sanibel Veterans Day Celebration
  1. When: 11 a.m. November 11
  2. Where: At the flag pole in front of Sanibel Town Hall, 800 Dunlop Road

The City of Sanibel is partnering with the Lee Coast Military Officers Association of America for its annual Veterans Day celebration. The BIG ARTS Concert Band, led by August Thoma, will begin playing patriotic music at 10:45 am, followed by the local Scout Troop / Pack 1740 and the Sanibel Police Honor Guard performing the flag ceremony at 11:00 am.

The Lee Coast MOAA will give special recognition to six Sanibel veterans who were successful last year.

Bonita Springs Veterans Day Ceremony
  1. When: 11 a.m. on November 11
  2. Where: Riverside Park in downtown Bonita Springs, 10450 Reynolds Street

The City of Bonita Springs and the Veterans Advisory Committee host the annual Veterans Day ceremony. The guest speaker for the Veterans Day ceremony will be five specialist James C. McCloughan, who drafted into the military on August 29, 1968. During basic training, McCloughan received advanced training as a as a medical specialist.

The ceremony will also include traditional commemorations such as the Alley of Flags, the 21-gun salute, the display of colors, the presentation of the blue / gold star banners and musical tributes.

COLLIER COUNTY

Collier County Ceremony
  1. When: November 11 9:30 am-11:30am
  2. Where: Cambier Park, 755 8th Avenue South in Naples

The ceremony features music by Pine Ridge Middle School’s Symphonic Band, a drill crew demonstration by Barron Collier High’s JROTC, and an invocation and speech by Lt. Col. Chris Walters (a 25-year veteran of the Marine Corps with several deployments in the Middle East). There will also be the 21-bell ringing of lead singer Steve Smith, lead singer Steve Smith, a flyby with US Air Force Maj.Jessica Stearns in a 1945 Piper L4 / J3 and the unveiling of a permanent chair. ” Missing Man, ”a memorial dedicated to MIAs and prisoners of war who have not returned home.

This is a free event and visitors are requested to bring seating.

The memorial wall of the trip to Vietnam
  1. When: Open to the public from 6 p.m. Wednesday until November 15

The Vietnam Trip Memorial Wall, similar to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, DC, was erected at the Church in Naples on Wednesday.

Marco Island Veterans Day Ceremony

  1. When: 11 a.m. on November 11
  2. Where: Marco Island Lutheran Church, 525 N. Collier Blvd. on Marco Island

The event is hosted by American Legion Post # 404 from Marco Island to the Lutheran Church on Marco Island. The ceremony will honor all veterans of the United States Armed Forces. The ceremony will take place in the sanctuary of the Lutheran Church. Places will be allocated on a first come basis, with veterans having priority.

CHARLOTTE COUNTY

Charlotte County Ceremony
  1. When: 11 a.m. on November 11
  2. Where: William R. Gaines Jr. Veterans Memorial Park, 20499 Edgewater Drive in Port Charlotte

The Charlotte County Veterans Council will be hosting a Veterans Day ceremony. It will include a joint guard of colors and a breakthrough for memorials dedicated to veterans and first responders. The First Responders Memorial will honor Charlotte County law enforcement, firefighters and paramedics. The Military Service Memorial will honor all U.S. military service veterans.
