Jennings Jerome “Jerry” Baggett

Jennings Jerome “Jerry” Baggett, a resident of Dothan, died Thursday afternoon January 27, 2022 at his home. He was 84 years old.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, January 30, 2022, at the First Baptist Church of Headland worship center with Dr. Cecil M. Sanders, Jr. officiating. Private services at the cemetery for the family will follow in Gardens of Memory with Dr. Jason Thrower as officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Sunday in the church sanctuary. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of the arrangements. Social distancing instructions and masks will be respected.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Headland, 301 East Church Street, Headland, AL 36345 or Ozark First United Methodist Church “Children’s Life Center” 167 East Broad Street, Ozark, AL 36360 .

Jerry Baggett was born in Montgomery and grew up throughout Southeast Alabama and Ashford while his father ministered to Baptist churches. He graduated from Ashford High School in 1955 and earned a BS in Business Administration from Samford University. Mr Baggett was a member of First Baptist Church in Headland and a former member of Calvary Baptist Church in Dothan, where he served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher. He retired as an insurance agent with State Farm Insurance after forty years. Previously, Baggett taught math and science and enjoyed coaching football and basketball. He was predeceased by his parents, Reverend William Jennings Baggett and Carolyn Harmon Baggett, one daughter, Terri Lynn Baggett Floyd and one brother, Billy Baggett.

Surviving relatives include his wife, Sherryl Pitchford Baggett; two daughters, Jennifer Kirkland, Dothan; and April Baggett Thrower (Dr. Jason Thrower), Ozark; five grandchildren, Mark Jennings Thrower, Luke Edward Thrower, Aubrey Nathaniel Kirkland, Erin Floyd Bledsoe and Kenneth Lane Floyd, II; four great-grandchildren, Parker, Harrison, Ripley and Asher and a great-grandson on the way.

Active carriers will be Aubrey Kirkland, Mark Thrower, Luke Thrower, Jason Thrower, Crawford Drake and Corey Driggers.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Essie McCloud and Christina Gordon for the loving care and kindness shown by Jerry during his illness.
