Jesse Lee Hosts For the Love of Music Fall Concert Series

Jesse Lee Music presents “For the Love of Music,” a fall concert series featuring performer-led repertoires. These concerts are a celebration of the music these talented artists love but were unable to perform when strict COVID restrictions were in place. Sarah Fox, Music Director of Jesse Lee Church, finds musicians and singers truly at their best when they put their whole heart into the songs they play. The two concerts, although diversified in their offerings, share the passion of these performers.

On October 10 at 3 pm in the Sanctuary of Jesse Lee Church at 207 Main Street, Ridgefield, CT, “For the Love of Music” features a chamber concert featuring Corinne Metter, violin; Suzanne Corey-Sahlin, viola; Gunnar Sahlin, cello, and Marc Chan and Sarah Fox on piano. These talented musicians will perform the music they have chosen from among JS Bach, Paul Wiancko, Chopin, Albert Markov, Gwyneth Walker and Beethoven.

On October 17 at 3 p.m. at the Sanctuary at Jesse Lee Church at 207 Main Street, Ridgefield, CT, “For the Love of Music” features baritone Christopher Grundy and Sarah Fox by Jesse Lee for a three-part concert that celebrates the music that they both like.

The first part features folk music by John Jacob Niles, a popular 20th-century Appalachian singer. This music was chosen for two reasons: first, it is part of the musical fabric of Sarah’s home state of Kentucky, and second, the narrative aspect of folk music provides a personal and expressive aspect of the music. which is a joy to perform and experience.

The second part consists of two classic pieces. One by Franz Schubert, the other by Gabrielle Faure. Coincidentally, the two pieces are called Opus 21.

This concert concludes with a celebration of musical theater in homage to Jesse Lee’s passion for incorporating tunes from Broadway shows into lessons about life and faith.

Everyone is welcome!
