Local church looking for people in old wedding photo
PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) – What is now a gutted building was once a beautiful shrine where people went to services or even got married. Although there isn’t much there now, there is a framed photo that members of a local church are hoping to return to its owner, if they can find out who it is.
They say a picture is worth a thousand words. But the story behind a photo found inside St. Andrew’s Baptist Church is something unique.
“We don’t have the heart to throw it in the trash. We would love to return it to the family of the bride and groom,” said Cathy Buschmeyer, finance ministry assistant at St. Andrew’s Baptist Church.
In 2018, Hurricane Michael tore through Panama City, leaving much of the church in pieces.
“All buildings belonging to the church were damaged,” Buschmeyer said. “We had to re-roof every building on campus.
But inside the bride’s bedroom, a framed photo never moved.
“They brought this photo into my office and they said do you know who this marriage belonged to? And I said no. I don’t,” Buschmeyer said.
That’s when the search began.
“We texted people we knew. We phoned people we knew. I posted it on Facebook and it’s been shared many times, but we’re just lost,” Buschmeyer said.
Church members believe the photo was taken in the late 80s or early 90s. But that’s all they’ve gathered so far.
“Color, big sleeves, big hair, you know. That’s all that was common during that time,” Buschmeyer said. “In addition to the pastor who does this ceremony, we recognize him. So we are on a quest.
A mission to find the people in the photo.
