Lois Marie Everett Drawdy | Obituary
Lois Marie Everett Drawdy, 83, of Patterson, died on Friday October 1, 2021 at Hospice Satilla Hospice House in Waycross after a brief illness.
Born to the late Fonnie James Everett and Bertha Phelps Everett on July 7, 1938, at Social Circle. She graduated from Social Circle High School in 1956. She went on to earn an Associate’s Degree from Young Harris College and a Bachelor of Education from Georgia Teachers College. She married Henry Edward Drawdy in 1961, and they shared their life together in Patterson for 52 years until her death in 2013.
She has had a dedicated career in education that spanned over 30 years. She was inducted into an honorary sorority for her educational achievements, Delta Kappa Gamma Society, and was a member of the Georgia Retired Educators Association. She taught English and French at Patterson High School and later at Pierce County Comprehensive High School, where she retired in 1992. During her teaching time, she was known for her dedication to the teaching grammar and writing and its expectation that all students learn to their highest potential. She has actively advocated for students inside and outside the classroom in academic and extracurricular endeavors, encouraging and supporting students to participate in literary competitions, serve as pages on the Capitol and apply for scholarships. and prizes that could further support their education and goals. She kept the notebook at sporting events, served as an academic sponsor for school teams and clubs, and was an avid Pierce County High School sports fan, attending PCHS football games for more than two decades afterward. his retirement.
She was baptized with her husband and joined Patterson Baptist Church in 1963, where she continued to attend for more than five decades. She was a member of the Joy Sunday School class and over the years taught Sunday School, served on the meal committee, supported youth events, and volunteered to help in various ministries. from the church.
She enjoyed traveling with her family and friends on trips to places near and far. She especially enjoyed traveling with her husband in their RV to her favorite camping destination, Pigeon Forge, TN. In her later years, she looked forward to annual beach trips to St. Augustine Beach, Florida with her family. She was always ready to try new places, restaurants and adventures, including even snow tubing in her 70s in Scaly Mountain, NC.
She was predeceased by her husband, Henry Edward Drawdy; by his parents, Fonnie and Bertha Everett; two brothers-in-law, JoAllen Drawdy and Ronald Austin Drawdy; a sister-in-law Virginia Robinson; a nephew, Mark Anthony Carter; a niece, Beth Robinson and a grandnephew, Eric Allen Collins.
Survivors include six first cousins, Sara Lemmons Adcock (Harrell), Monroe, Grace Lemmons Hughes (Ronnie), Athens, Ruth Lemmons and Allen Lemmons (Wanda), both of Social Circle, Pat Hedgewood (Doug), Conyers and Joe Phelps (Elaine), Monroe; two brothers-in-law, Daniel Drawdy (Gloria) and Joseph Drawdy (Karen), both of Blackshear; five sisters-in-law, Nola Mae Carter (Roger), Blackshear, Joan Lee (Jimmy), Hoboken, Ellie Loudermilk (Bill), Perry, Linda Hayden (Lee), Griffin and Glenda Lee (Larry), Blackshear; 25 nieces and nephews, their spouses and 51 grand-nieces and nephews: Terri and Greg Still (Alison, Erica), Waycross, Susie and Don Eidam (Brittany, Heather), Savannah, Warren and Rosa Quellea Carter (Brandon, Manuel, Benjamin ), Clayton, Julie and Colin Campbell (Samantha), Winter Park, FL, Jon and Paula Drawdy (Michael, David, Thomas), Blackshear, Kim and Steve Fahlgren (Caleb, Joshua, Abigail), Hilliard, FL, Sandra and Mike Copeland (Adam, Hope, Courtney, Katie), Juliette, Laura and Carl Malmquist (Eric, Conner), Carrollton, Matt and Lisa Carter (Maegan), Robert and Ellen Drawdy (Emily, Emmett, Rachel) and Ron Lee (Logan, Spencer), all from Blackshear, Jared and Melissa Griffis (Caleb, Mary Lois), Newnan, Jason and Courtney Loudermilk (Emma, Grant, Norah, Sallie), Powder Springs, Susan and Jacob Gibbs (Jacob, Ryan, Eli) , Blackshear and Leslie and Gail Lee (Kalynne, Gracie, Zachary, Maegan), all from Blackshear, Jennifer and Bryan Waters (Luke, Chase), Statesboro, Sherri and Chris Underwo od (Kye), Mine ral Point, WI, Jay Drawdy, Hazlehurst, Joshua and Mindy Griffis (Ruth, David, Nathan, Abigail), Griffin, David and Sara Beth Loudermilk (John David, Will, Beth Ann), Cumming, Kasey Sapp (Camson, Caden) and Tyler Drawdy, all of Blackshear, Lynn Kostelecty, Scott Robinson and Michael Robinson.
Visitations will be held from 1:30 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. on Sunday, October 3, at the Patterson Baptist Church Shrine.
The funeral will be at 3 p.m. on Sunday October 3 at the Patterson Baptist Church.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, October 4 at Patterson Cemetery.
The family requests that members of the Joy Sunday School class serve as honorary porters. They are asked to arrive at the church before 2:30 p.m. on Sunday.
