Another chapter in Warner Castle’s long history will be written when a film crew arrives to shoot indoor and outdoor scenes for the new Avati brothers production.
Towards the end of the Ralph’s World concert on Wednesday, July 26, conductor Ralph Covert invited all the children to take the stage to play guitar, drums and any other instrument of their choice during “Treehouse Orchestra” .
At the Rock Island County Fair, Caleb Seys from rural Coal Valley showed the Grand Champion Steer in both the Junior Open Show on Friday July 21 and the opn Show on Saturday July 22. Steer was also the shorthorn champion in both shows.
Three Orion girls received honorable mention in the Dispatch and Rock Island Argus track and field team. They were Megan Maher, Abby Owens and Emilie Padgett.

Orion Alumni & Friends’ first annual golf outing was held at Indian Bluff Golf Course in Milan on Saturday July 20. Thirteen teams participated in the four-person favorite ball tournament. First place went to Dan Rumler, Tom Smith, Rod Woodley and Tom Zambrand at 14 under par. Troy Hamilton, Al Haars, Jerry Johnson and Bart Sampson took first place in the second flight at six under par. These teams donated their prize money to the Orion Foundation for Education. According to Rod Woodley, president of Orion Alumni & Friends, the tournament raised over $ 1,200 for the Orion school system.
The International Order of the Rainbow for Girls of Moline Assembly held a meeting on Saturday July 27 at the Scottish Rite Cathedral of Moline. Officers named include Valerie Border, Patriotism, Martha Leader, Confidential Observer; Sarah Leader, outside observer and Kimberly Newton, choir director.
Orion soccer mothers line up at their sons ‘position during college coach Todd Williams’ soccer clinic on Saturday morning, July 27 at Orion High School. They include Margie Emmert, late; Linda Thomsen, tackle; Jean Tennant, guard; Dawn Cox, center; Tina Tennant, guard; Bobbi Thomsen, tackle and Janet Magee, tackle. In the backfield is Andrea Fisher, quarterback; Liz Rogers, full back and Becky Barnes, full back, Gloria Grafton, winger. For three hours, the mothers learned the exercises, games and equipment.
Eric P. Young, son of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Young of Coal Valley, received a Bachelor of Science degree from Bradley University, Peoria on Saturday May 18.

Reverend Myrvin L. Holmberg, pastor of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Orion for 12 years, has announced his resignation as pastor of the church and will lead his last service on August 8. He announced his retirement from the local church. counseling on July 21 and to the congregation during Sunday morning services.
The Orion Lions Club has announced that it will sponsor an ice cream party in the village park on Saturday August 7. Ice cream and topping will be served at 6:30 p.m. and everyone is welcome to attend.
Mr. and Mrs. Keith McGill moved from Mrs. Maxine Keleher’s apartment on Fourth Street to their new residence at 1523 Seventh Street.
Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Fredell from Lincoln, Nebraska, who spent a month with Mrs. Carl Fredell and other relatives returned home Tuesday with Mr. and Mrs. Richard Pella from Technsch, Nebraska who came to attend the Fredell reunion.

A three-day baseball tournament will be held at Osco Ball Park on August 5, 6 and 7 and double-headed matches will be played each day between four fast teams, which will prove to be a series of great interest to fans of the community.
Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Palmgren and their daughter, Hazel, of St. Paul, MN and Miss Edith Palmgren of Rock Island, visited Ms. Jennie Palmgren on Wednesday.
