Michiana local church making cards for a cause

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – A local church in Michiana is hosting a series of 25 things to do during Lent.

The Lenten series program, Living Matthew 25 was developed by Phyllis Wezeman, outreach committee chair of the First Presbyterian Church of South Bend Outreach Committee and former staff member..

The local church has started doing Care grams for community members, and on Sunday, March 13, community members can write words of encouragement to show they wish them luck.

Wezeman said Care programs will be sent to homebound congregants and residents of local shelters to let them know they matter. And River Montessori High School is partnering with the church to create these care programs which will be sent out later this week.

Wezeman said it meant a lot to the people who received these care programs. You can join First Presbyterian Church in South Bend from 11 a.m. to create cards to help lift the spirits of people who enjoy social interaction but can’t leave their homes or create encouragement cards for those that are in local shelters.

“That someone who doesn’t even know them in the case of some of the people who are in shelters, they just need to know that there are people there who are cheering them on, thinking of them, who wish them good luck,” Wezeman said.

You can help with care programs beginning at 11 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church in South Bend.
