Reverend Steve Miller, the new pastor of Jaffrey First Church, will give his first sermon on Sunday January 23 at the Congregational/United Church of Christ at 14 Laban Ainsworth Way in Jaffrey.

Service begins at 10:30 a.m. To protect against COVID, attendees should be fully immunized, wear a mask, and adhere to socially distanced seating.

“I’m very excited to get to know all the people of Jaffrey, the church and the wider Jaffrey community,” Miller said. “I met some neighbors walking my dog - I’m a bit of a schmoozer – and I was playing in the snow and building a snowman with my two grandsons, who are 2½ and nine months old.”

His wife Jill will join him at the First Church rectory after his retirement in May as professor and chair of the University of South Dakota’s communications department. Miller comes to Jaffrey from Vermillion, SD, where he pastored for 26 years at the United Church of Christ-Congregational.

Miller grew up in Worcester, Mass., and graduated from Springfield College in 1981. He served churches in Bethlehem, Connecticut, and Gilman, Iowa, before moving to Vermillion in 1995.

He was honored by the Vermillion Community Theater with a poster of six photos of him in community theater productions titled “Actor, Playwright, Songwriter, Musician, Spirit Director” in thanks for his support and that of the church to help the theater build a high school performing arts center. He was also one of the leaders of the Vermillion Youth Baseball Association for players ages 5-12.
