Detectives arrested a Paterson man after seeing him selling crack cocaine in one of Silk City’s deadliest drug districts, authorities said.

City detectives moved in after seeing 23-year-old Tony Williams carrying bags of crack cocaine on Godwin Avenue and Summer Street, Public Safety Director Jerry Speziale said.

They seized 147 bags of drugs and $ 179 in proceeds, he said.

Several victims have been shot or injured – including four in the past seven months – in the neighborhood.

The violent 42-50 street gang controlled the area amid frequent gunfire. Renowned frontman Marvin Goodman was injured in a drive-by shooting last year.

Goodman and 14 well-known members and associates of Crew 42-50 put 50,000 doses of deadly heroin and more than two pounds of crack a week on the city streets, according to an indictment issued three years ago. month.

Heroin has been linked to eight overdose deaths and 14 non-fatal overdoses, State Attorney General Andrew J. Bruck said.

Williams was held in Passaic County Jail awaiting an initial appearance for drug possession.
