TRIBUTE TO MOTHERS: From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. today, the Catholic Diocese of Youngstown will honor living and deceased mothers in diocesan cemeteries with flowers and a prayer card, and light refreshments. Staff will be available to answer any questions and distribute cemetery maps, as well as to write orders for work to be done on family graves. The event will take place at Resurrection Cemetery in Austintown, Calvary Cemetery in Youngstown, All Souls Cemetery in Cortland and Calvary Cemetery in Massillon.
CONCERT SET: General Assembly Church of God, 2021 E. River Road, Newton Falls, will host the Singing Weavers in concert at 11 a.m. Sunday.
50 YEARS ANNIVERSARY: People’s Chapel Church of God, 2145 Hillman St., Youngstown, celebrated its 50th anniversary on May 1. The theme was “Jubilation.”
GUEST VOCALIST: McKinley Community Church, 1524 Elm Road, Warren, will host Tia Ciferno, who will provide vocal music at 10:30 a.m. Sunday. Ciferno will also talk about her involvement with the Bella Women’s Center in Warren, which helps women in pregnancy crisis.
Ciferno has been a resident of Warren most of her life. She and her husband, Mike, have been married for 42 years and raised their four children in Warren. Over the past 25 years, she has also had the opportunity to share her original inspirational music in hundreds of local churches and venues and in other states and countries.
MOTHER’S SUNDAY: Third Christian Church, 241 First St., Warren, will host Mother’s Day Sunday sponsored by Christian Men’s Fellowship. The guest speaker is Reverend Neil Heller, associate minister of the New Jerusalem Fellowship Church.
MEMORIAL SERVICE: A memorial service for stillborn babies and those lost through miscarriage will be held May 15 at 2 p.m. in Calvary Cemetery Chapel in Youngstown, 248 Belle Vista Ave., or Calvary Cemetery in Massillon, 3469 Lincoln Way. Parents, grandparents and other family members are encouraged to attend. SCHOLARSHIP WINNER: Halle Snider, a member of St. Stephen’s Catholic Church in Niles who will attend Youngstown State University majoring in respiratory care, was the recipient of the recently presented Thomas Murphy Scholarship at the Niles Interfaith event at the Ciminero Banquet Center.
HEARTS OPEN: Simple Gifts Interfaith Choir will present “Hearts Wide Open” 4:00 p.m. May 22 at Hubbard First Presbyterian Church, 22 Westview Ave. The free one-hour concert will feature the 55-voice choir singing traditional, contemporary and gospel selections, with opportunities for the audience to sing along.
Guest musicians will accompany the choir on special selections throughout the program.
A reception will follow in the parish hall. A voluntary offering will be taken to benefit the United States Presbyterian Church Disaster Assistance for Ukraine.
WEEKEND ENGAGEMENT: The Unity Spiritual Center, 1226 Naylor Lloyd Road, Liberty, is sponsoring a weekend return engagement by international performers and recording artists Armand and Angelina. It begins with a concert on Friday at 7 p.m. and during the mass on May 15 at 11 a.m. At 1 p.m., it will host a workshop on the Native American flute.
On May 16, he will finalize his engagement with a “Angel’s Harp Meditation” beginning at 6:30 p.m. All events, including services, are open to the public. Suggested donations for the concert, flute workshop and angel harp meditation are $20 per event. There is no charge to attend services. To reserve, call 330-539-0122.
TASTE OF FAITHS: The Mahoning Valley Association of Churches invites the community to Taste of Faiths 5:30 p.m. May 19 at St. Charles Parish Hall, Boardman. Food and beverages will be provided by Mahoning Valley congregations. In addition to food, there will be musical entertainment and a raffle. Proceeds help support the work of MVAC. GASTRONOMIC FESTIVAL OF UKRAINE: SS. Mary and Joseph Parish will be sponsoring a Ukrainian Culinary Festival from 5 to 8 p.m. May 14 in the church social hall on Seneca Street NE. Local restaurateurs will give their time and talent to serve at the various stations set up around the hall. Admission tickets are $20 each for adults and $10 for children 10 and under. UKRAINE PASTA BENEFIT: Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish Center, 4500 Norquest Blvd., Austintown, will host a pasta benefit in support of humanitarian relief to help the people of Ukraine from noon to 6 p.m. May 15. Cost of dinner, prepared by Rachel’s Restaurant and Catering, is $10 and includes pasta, meatballs, salad, bread and butter, and dessert. Dine-in or take-out options are available. Only cash and checks will be accepted. Live entertainment will begin at 12:30 p.m. There will be a basket raffle and a special item raffle. 50 YEARS: Gethsemane Lutheran Church, 1110 N. Salem-Warren Road, North Jackson, will hold a special service at 9 a.m. on May 15 to celebrate the church’s 50th anniversary. The day will include honoring former pastors and longtime members.
GOLDEN WONDERS: The Mighty Golden Wonders quartet will celebrate their 45th anniversary at 5 p.m. May 15 at Greater St. John’s Church, 419 Highland Ave. SW, Warren. Musical guests include the Joynette Singers of Cleveland, the Newport Christianaires of Akron, the Gospel Angels of Cleveland, the Horner Singers of Canton and Boot, and the Boys of Akron.
