Thomas Baptist Church of Mount Hebron holds prayer walk in response to surge in violent crime

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – Birmingham Police are calling on the community to step in and help end the violence.

A church in the Thomas Community of Birmingham is trying to do its part by organizing a prayer walk this Saturday.

The drive-by shooting that killed a man in front of his children on Friday is just a few miles from the Thomas Baptist Church of Mount Hebron.

Police are still working on the case after a barrage of bullets killed the father and injured five others, including a baby and a toddler.

Pastor William Cummings says it broke their hearts to see something so serious happen so close.

Yet he says this prayer walk is not just about coming together, but also about reminding the younger community that positive role models and life paths exist.

“It’s very important. It’s important because we live in a time where things just seem hopeless. And the most precious thing we can offer the world is hope, and the church wants to be that. change and that driving force in the community,” said Pastor Cummings.

The march will begin at 9 a.m. this Saturday at the church. There will be refreshments and everyone is invited to participate.
